Skillman Horse Camp and Little Lasier Meadows

SKILLMAN HORSE CAMP is located above Nevada City on Hwy. 20. (13 miles from where Hwy 49 meets Hwy 20 at the top of Nevada City)

LITTLE LASIER MEADOWS, Jackson Meadows area above Truckee

See Trails Council's Web Site:   http://www.oro.net/~crbarnes/gctc.html   This Site is under construction, so check back often.

There are miles and miles of riding at both camps. I like Skillman as it is closer to Grass Valley and easy to get to. It is a beautiful place to camp and/ or ride. There is a new Forestry Trail's Map that's hot off the press. The map shows the hiking/equestrian trail systems in and around Nevada County. If you would like one let me know I will direct you to where you may purchase one. I think they are $6 at the Forestry Department, and well worth it. If you are a Trails Council Member you can get them for $3 (ask me). Most of these trails are for horse camping and riding. Driving use is VERY limited in most of the areas.

New Horse Camp --  There is a new 200+ acre horse camp and trail riding facility being built ("as I type") up on Hwy 80 near Kingvale (Donner Summit area). A neighbor of mine is in partnership on the venture. I asked if there would be wide trails and would carriages be welcomed. He was VERY open to making the trails wide enough for the driving population. He hadn't thought carriage people would be interested. I enlightened him... : ) They are just now cutting the trail system in and he said they could just make it wider and I suggested turnouts and other stuff..... There will be a camp area with hookups, showers, spring water and bathrooms. Oh, and corrals for your horses! He and I are going to go up and take a look and I will suggest ideas that would work for folks who want to take a weekend off and head up to horse camp and drive in the Sierra Foothills. If you have any ideas/suggestions send them to me and I will talk to "Al" about them. This camp is in the very beginning stages of construction and he said can easily be changed to fit and include driver's needs. This sounds promising.... I will keep you posted. If anyone wants more detailed information feel free to send me an e-mail and I will send you information on what I have a regarding the trails around our area.
