Outside of Healdsburg is a place called Riverfront park. It is part of the Sonoma county parks organization and costs $5 per vehicle to go there.
They have equestrian parking and a manure dump box. The trail is approximately 2 miles of well maintained gravel road around a lovely little lake. They have a beautiful picnic area under redwood trees too.
There are a couple of downsides though. Worst is that there are bollards (the removable posts put across the road to prevent motor vehicles from accessing the park trails) in three places on the trail. There is about 50" clearance between them as my 48" cart just makes it. The park
rangers that are often there will pull one down for a horse drawn vehicle though. In about 4 or 5 spots there are larger rocks across the road where a seasonal creek runs across and one really should walk across those. In late winter, spring and sometimes part of summer there is a portion of the trail that is under water. At times I imagine it is just flooded enough to make for schooling water but I am not sure.
I like it enough as a schooling and conditioning area to get a seasonal park pass so I can go more frequently and Nancy Turner and I are looking into having a small organized drive there. (The rangers would open the bollards and we can reserve the picnic area)
Happy Trails Everyone,
